I’m going to make an effort to do more video book reviews as people seem to like them, plus, they’re fun to do! My apologies there are no kitties in this video, and as always, please send any feedback my way re: lighting, backgrounds, etc. I need all the help I can get!
I like the bookcase as background, but I’m stunned that you have all those empty spaces on it! Clearly you’re simply not acquiring enough books! Ruth Ware’s books always sound intriguing, but you’re right about the female twenty- or thirty-something protagonist. I hadn’t realised it till you said it, but an awful lot of thrillers at the moment have those kind of fairly identikit main characters. I don’t really mind if everything else is good, though – after all, for decades nearly all thrillers starred a thirty-something man…!!
ha yes that’s a good point, it’s time for the women to take centre stage, even if they are victims in a thriller LOL
Yes, I barely buy books, I just rely on what publishers send me. Plus, I avoid taking stuff out from the library because i want to stay focused on the reviews I ‘owe’ publishers, which doesn’t really sound like much fun at all…
I don’t buy many either these days, but I’m hopeless at sending them off to the charity shop once I’ve read them, so my house is always full of piles of books I can’t find shelf space for. I need to buy some books on de-cluttering… 😉
haha
we have these things called ‘little libraries’ here in Canada, and I doubt they originated here, but they’re like small stands that people put books into, and take out. I tend to hunt those down and drop off books in them to help de-clutter 🙂
I’ve only read The Women in Cabin 10, but I know Dark Wood has female friendships, and that’s something I admire about Ware. Lady friendships are hard to do without stereotyping.
Hmm that’s actually a very good point, and female friendships are really at the forefront of this latest book!
I can’t believe she has three books out already. I feel like her first one just came out!
I also didn’t realize you have now read all three. You’ve totally convinced me to give her a try.
Just curious… do you have a favourite?
Hmmm maybe woman in cabin 10? And yes, she seems to be pumping them out these days…
I’ve read and enjoyed her others two books, so it’s just a matter of time and mood before i get to this one. Good to know you enjoyed it! I like your background. I don’t watch othe book vloggers so I don’t have a frame of comparison to judge but I think you’re doing a very nice job with these!
Thanks Laila! I hope you like her third book, hopefully she has a few more coming!
Amazing review! It’s a shame about the lack of kitties, they’re always fun to watch hahaha
yes I know, I need to bribe them with more cat treats. Thanks for watching!
Hahaha that might work, actually. Cats are so self-serving 😛 (good thing they are super cute too)
Maybe you will be the reader who finally convinces me to watch a review. Maaaybe. But, then, no cats you say. Hmm.
I heard her in interview this week (but it was likely an older episode of something on BBC) about how she started writing about women’s friendships and then realised that she made them rather dark and tried again (because she actually has some wonderful friends IRL apparently) thinking to make them more wonderful, but then it just got even darker. Oops. She seems to have a good sense of humour!
yes she’s a lovely person, but the female friendships she describes in her books are…quite awful actually
This is on my TBR. The only one I liked from her so far, was The Woman in cabin 10. Wasn’t a fan of In a dark, dark wood. Hope I’ll enjoy this like you did 🙂
I liked all three so far, but Cabin 10 was definitely my fav. I hope you like it too!
