2018 Holiday Advent Calendar Unveiling: December 8
December 8, Festive by George Saunders: A short and sweet story with an undertone of sadness. The perfect length for a Saturday morning right before I headed to a Christmas market. The saying on my inspirational calendar today was “Collect moments not things”, which also seems prophetic. He really captured the unique world kids live in, too—mink boots and lasers…too much! Loved the “Feel” and “Worry” section.
I also felt the overall design of the collection reminded me of trees…the shiny aluminum ones from “A Charlie Brown Christmas”. I particularly like that the December 25 story has a dark spine, so you know what you’re working toward.

I still want to know what’s in that Haribo Bear calendar! This story sounds fun, so I have to ask myself why I’ve read so little of Saunders.
