2018 Short Story Advent Calendar Unveiling: December 10
Today’s story is called “One Gram Short” by Etgar Keret, translated by Nathan Englander. It’s my favourite one yet!

Smokey hogs the camera, I’m wearing my housecoat, and an important and timely story is included in today’s video.
I’ve tried a new angle here-let me know what you think! Smokey chooses to clean her butt instead of making an appearance in this video. Also, you witness me daydreaming about being put under for my tooth surgery, because I’m looking forward to not worrying about anything while I’m in la-la land.
Whoa, where does the time go? Turns out I didn’t get my tooth pulled today, but my excuse for not posting yesterday is still legit, I was indeed filming a few television segments! More on that later, but in the meantime, enjoy these videos, where the last one includes my kid hacking in the background……
We’re onto day #2! And I know i’m posting this super late today, but Momma’s been busy :)
Welcome to day 1 of my short story advent calendar unveiling! Like last year, I’ll be opening up one new short story each day from my Hingston and Olsen advent calendar PLUS opening up my Godiva chocolate calendar as well. That means I’ll be posting a new video every single day until December 25! Smokey…
I’m getting into the festive Halloween spirit here by reviewing a ‘spooky’ book by Craig Davidson: The Saturday Night Ghost Club. Notice the extra effort I’ve put into this video-I included Halloween decorations on my bookshelf! That’s about as crafty as I get unfortunately, but nonetheless here it is. I should have mentioned that this…
Technically this is a product + book review, because not only do I regale my viewers with (somewhat) insightful comments on Kim Thuy’s latest book Vi, but I also review some local chocolate by Master Chocolat! Yes, I’m really taking to this chocolate blogging thing, it’s a true passion of mine. I’ve also changed my…
Alexander McCall Smith is just one of those guys-he’s super nice in person (yes, I’ve spent one-on-one time with him, and he wore a kilt!), he writes wonderful books, and he’s super prolific, even though he’s a millionaire and no longer needs to work. What’s not to love? The premise of this book didn’t even…
After a short hiatus from my booktube reviews, I’m back with a new one: The Italian Teacher by Tom Rachman. As I mention in the recording, this is the July pick for my book club (register for the discussion here if you’re interested and live in Calgary!), and I really enjoyed it. Didn’t think I…
So, I don’t normally review ‘coffee table’ books but I made an exception for this one because it’s a picture book of cats on outdoor adventures. Yes, you read that right, cats are in canoes, hiking mountains and perching on paddle boards in the great white north that is the Canadian wilderness. Bolt and Keel…
My Canadian readers won’t be at all surprised to see I’m reviewing Bellevue Square by Michael Redhill because it won the richest literary prize in Canada back in November: the Giller Prize. I’ll be honest though, I had no intention of reading it until my book club chose it. I’m glad I did because first of…
