Radio Segment: I’m a Wordfest Insider Yo!
It will come as no surprise to anyone that I’m counting down the days until Wordfest 2017. For my most recent trip into the CBC Studios, I gave my ‘insider’ suggestions of which authors to take in while attending Wordfest this year, as well as getting in a little promo to the event I’ll be hosting which is the Book Club Bonanza-buy tickets here! I get a bit silly in this segment, perhaps I’m just giddy at the prospect of so many fun book events in my near future. You can listen to the full segment here.Â
I recommend two authors in particular-Kevin Hardcastle’s In the Cage (review to come) and Mandy Len Catron’s How to Fall in Love with Anyone. Each book is very different from the other, and each author is easily overlooked when it comes to the other big names attending the festival so I wanted to make sure they didn’t get lost in the fray. I haven’t made my final decision yet as to which events I’ll be attending. Most likely the Giller Prize showcase, the short story advent calendar event (thanks to Reading in Bed‘s video series of last year) and a breakfast event (perhaps the Ruth Ware one?) will be on my to-do list.
To my Calgary/Southern Alberta readers-which events will you be attending?
Sounds like lots of fun – enjoy! And I hope your own event goes well – will there be cake?
gosh I sure hope so! I better look into that…
I’ll be volunteering as a driver for the first time this year. That should be interesting. Otherwise I’m volunteering at, or attending, poetry, international and indigenous themed events. I’m especially excited about German writer Jenny Erpenbeck and the kick-ass Indigenous writer and musician Leanne Betasamosake Simpson.
Yes! I’m really excited about Leanne too. That’s good that you’re volunteering as a driver, they always need good drivers!!!!
I’m far away in France but we have an event around paperbacks on Friday and I’ll be going! Harlan Coben too :p
aren’t book events fun? It gives us the chance to get out and see people just like us hahah
YES! It’s awesome! It was my first so I did not get to enjoy it as a visitor, but the next one I’ll be taking pics and being a weird booknerd!!
