My Hosting Gig(s) at Wordfest
So I had all these grand plans for fully partaking in Wordfest last week. I told them I would volunteer, host two events, and generally be anywhere and everywhere as much as my schedule would allow. My husband even offered to take some time off work so I could immerse myself in the festival experience. Alas, fate had other plans, and they came in the form of hand, foot and mouth disease.
So needless to say, I missed out on most of the fun times I had planned, but I was still able to make it to my Sunday hosting gig as most of my rash had disappeared by then, and I was no longer contagious. Michael Koryta, Jay Hosking, Andrew F. Sullivan and Michael Helm were my artists, and together we made up the Sunday Mystery and Suspense Showcase. We had a super fun time onstage, and the gentlemen enjoyed making fun of me backstage (no one wanted to shake my hand, for obvious reasons) so my Wordfest story had a happy ending after all.
I’ve posted my review of Michael Kortya’s book, and I’ll be posting my reviews of the other three artists later this week, so stay tuned!
I had so hoped to meet you this past weekend, but I heard from Shelley about your illness and saw the panel she hosted on your behalf. Great photo with Andrew. I bought his book but I am a little anxious to read it—it sounds very black, though he did slyly assure me it is black humour (which I do like). Have you read it? I volunteered at the hotel for the first time this year which was fun, and of course, at a number of events.
That’s too bad that we missed the chance to finally meet, although Calgary is small enough I’m sure it will only be a matter of time. And don’t worry about Waste, it’s worth the parts you’ll cringe at :)
