Holiday Advent Calendar Unveiling: December 23

I’ve got a brand new background for ya today! And some insights from my husband on this latest short story which has a very creative title (wink wink).
This is definitely a first for this blog-the review of a ‘zine’, which is defined by urban dictionary as basically a cheaply made publication filled with passion. I love this definition because it perfectly describes this fashion revolution zine. I ordered it awhile ago, probably about a year ago now when I first started researching the…
Described as a locked-room mystery, The Golden Spoon by Jessa Maxwell is a debut novel that delivers exactly what it promises; a fun story with some quirky characters and a rich setting that ties it all together nicely. Its publisher compares it to the bestselling mystery The Maid by Nita Prose, another whodunit that’s written…
Ok I am specifically NOT looking at any other reviews of Patrick deWitt‘s Under Major Domo Minor before I post this, because I don’t want anyone else’s opinion to influence mine, or make me second guess myself. Not only did I love this book, but I think it is destined to become a classic, one…
When I received this book from the publisher, I’ll admit I was underwhelmed. Another book about WWII? Have all the stories been told already? But I had heard so many good things about The German Girl by Armando Lucas Correa that I plowed through it anyway with hopes that the praise was not unfounded. My…
This is the second book by Benjamin Stevenson that I’ve read and enjoyed this year. Everyone This Christmas Has a Secret is obviously a seasonal release, meant to capture those readers who love a good holiday-themed book, myself included. I’ve reviewed stories like this before, and typically enjoyed them. But I knew this book would…
Now I don’t want to give readers the wrong idea here; I’m not usually one to pick up and review the genre of science fiction and fantasy, so don’t expect a one-eighty in the types of books that I’ll pick up going forward. However, it’s important to me that I explore as many genres as…

“But Santa’s into sluts, that’s why he says ho ho ho!”–my husband
Did you read the publishers spooky box, or whatever it was, chosen by Patton Oswalt? I think it was all horror themed. They should do that next year with the advent calendar. Seriously, publishers put out calls for themed stories all the time, and people either write them it submit ones they’ve written.
bahahaha that comment sounds exactly like something my husband would say!
I didn’t read the ghost box, but I’d like to! It was all horror or gothic themed I think. You’re right, I’m surprised they didn’t specify the stories needed to have some holiday-ish ness to them.
I would have thought mistletoe would have been an essential tool for an aspiring slut…
right???
Catching up, obviously…
I liked the fire – thought it was a nice change of pace and nice lighting.
I agree, this kind of story should have been included earlier in the month, from the sound of it. “Santa would not approve” – that made me laugh!
he sure wouldn’t! My husband did though :)
