2018 Holiday Advent Calendar Unveiling: December 2

We’re onto day #2! And I know i’m posting this super late today, but Momma’s been busy :)

Can I get a hurrah for linked short story collections? Frying Plantain by Zalika Reid-Benta is a quiet yet decisive book that doesn’t gloss over the first and second generation immigrant experience in Canada. And instead of getting a disjointed look at these experiences through a raft of different characters, we follow one person, Kara…

Oh my, just two more days to go! I’m enjoying the stories but these videos are ALOT of work! Maybe next year I’ll just do social media updates as I work through the calendar or something…

Some of you may be wondering where my reviews of the 2019 Short Story Advent Calendar are, because in years past, I’ve posted a review every single day from December 1 to December 25. Well I’ve smartened up because it was just too time intensive to make a youtube video each and every day, so…

Sometimes I don’t like a short story. Sometimes, it launches me into a rant about why I don’t like particular styles of writing. Today, is one of those days. On a happier note, at the end of this post is a video (hopefully it works!) of my first television book segment. Feel free to skip…

When you record these videos, are you thinking of me on the other end watching? lol. I ask because I think I’m usually the first one to watch your advent videos (with my husband, of course!). We were talking about your camera–does yours have an auto-focus feature? If so, turn that off. Get your husband to focus for you, or have him sit where you will sit and you can focus, and THEN do your video. That might help with the shifting focus! If you’re not sure, Google your camera brand and the year it was made for help.
Ok this is very helpful!!! I will try this for tomorrow’s video :)
And yes, sometimes I am thinking of you guys watching haha
😘
It’s much nicer in the H&O collection, but here is the/a link for story 2 from the Short Story Advent Calendar 2018: http://thecollagist.com/the-collagist/2015/10/6/slower.html
Thanks Cathy!
Sounds a bit depressing – thank goodness you have the chocolate on hand to restore your joie de vivre! I like the look of that one – does it have a filling?
Yes! The 3D ones have ganache fillings, and they are delish!
Oh that does sound sad. I know anything with kids hits me much harder now than it did before I had one.
me too! It’s terrible actually
