  1. Every time I read about teenagers I thank my gods that I am old! I do hope all these books exaggerate how awful life is for teens these days. If not, something has gone badly wrong with parenting and education… *grumpy old woman face*

  2. Oh my God. So much wincing! That’s brilliant what you tried to do, though, look at it from different lenses. I kept thinking that this was probably also a story about isolation and loneliness, that there are no other trustworthy grownups in this poor child’s life.

    1. Yes, loneliness is definitely a big part of it. Ugh god I wanted to reach out and hug this girl so badly.

  3. This does sound like an interesting book. Does it really get into the details of having a teen body, like periods and stuff? I think that’s important to include in teen fiction. Also, I will say it’s interesting that she cuts herself to see what she looks like inside. Cutty is often associated with a sense of control when the person feels like she’s lost control and wants it back.

    1. Hmm it’s definitely about your body turning into womanhood, but more about the power and danger that comes along with it. It’s the phase after you get your period and start to notice older men noticing you?

  4. As you say, this sounds way too scary for parents with young daughter. Though I do think it’s also good to explore these stories in fiction.
