    1. Um no haha. That blurb felt wildly exaggerated. It’s just a suspense that’s entertaining to read.

  1. Obviously they’re brother and sister. JK, I have no clue. I read a TC Boyle short story about a young woman who functions as a surrogate for a couple. The woman lives in their home and carries their child, and eventually the father falls in love with the surrogate mother, which Boyle describes as being almost natural and hormonal, as if he needs to protect the woman carrying his child. I found it fascinating because every so often I get a smack-in-the-face reminder that we’re really animals.

    1. Hmm hasn’t Boyle been sort of criticized for being ignorant sometimes? This feels weird to me, that he would try to justify this. Although, maybe it is the hormones? The stronghold hormones has on so many parts of our lives are scary!!!

    2. Well, it was a fiction story, so it wasn’t about T.C. Boyle himself. I think he pushes stories into a place where I want to side with one character but have a really, really hard time picking which. The nuance is so good in Boyle’s stuff.

  2. The dreaded lodger, oh no! Heheh I’m not sure this one’s for me but I enjoyed reading your thoughts about it, particularly the care with which you discuss the ending without spoiling.
