  1. I read an author who writes crime novels set in LA a lot – Michael Connelly – but he writes about the reality of the problems there AND the beautiful places in the area. It’s nice to get a more rounded picture.

    1. I’ve only read a few Michael Connelly books in time so I don’t really remember his picture of L.A., but this book is truly dark!

    1. It’s the only reason I wasn’t totally depressed, I have no plans to visit L.A. anytime soon!

  2. I always feel confused when a book had me turning pages like crazy, but I finished feeling very meh. What kept me going, and why did it not have an overall impact on me??

    1. Sometimes the suspense feels artificial, but it works to keep the pages turning. This book is entertaining when you’re in it, but unfortunately, forgettable!

  3. It seems like a familiar pattern that, in this case the characters never go to the ocean but are happy while they’re there…how often do we continue making dumb choices that keep us mired in unhappy situations. Isn’t this why we read? To learn from characters’ mistakes?? Heheh

    1. right? And they probably don’t even realize how long they are staying away from the ocean…
