Cats! Books! A woman with glasses on the cover! This book just calls to me, for obvious reasons. Based on the font, colour scheme and title of this book, you would think it’s chick lit. My friends, it is most definitely not. It is quirky, it is funny, but there is no romance in it. None. It’s an epistolary novel about a woman who is selfish, but she has a cat named Butterscotch so that helps make up for her behavior.
In this video I also introduce you to Makita, a cat we have been babysitting long-term, who comes across as quite camera shy but is in actuality, a real cuddle bug.
Ooh interesting – I used to sell books and I am a cat owner! Great book covers always attract me, that’s one thing you just don’t see when you have an electronic reader. I enjoy both, always slightly wary of dropping a kindle into a bath if I am relaxing for an hour with a story to hand! And books, I love to pass them onto friends, that just doesn’t happen with e books.
I have never read an e-book, but they certainly have a time and place, espeically when travelling. My suitcase is always to heavy with paperbacks! hahah
I know those days – I am a fast reader and used to take a pile of books away with me! I was lucky enough to be given an ereader and at the time thought ‘I’ll never use that’, but I do!
I looked up this book on Goodreads and it has some scathing reviews! One person said I’ve never wanted to punch a fictional character in the face this much. Ha ha! I think the cover really sets people up for a different expectation!
Yes the protagonist is….a real doozy.
The cover is definitely screaming chick-lit! A real marketing problem, since it’s bound to attract the “wrong” sort of reader.
Makita is gorgeous and I’m always jealous of people with cuddly cats since my two rarely condescend to be cuddled – without me ending up in ER, anyway! I hope she becomes a permanent member of your family. 😀
She sleeps with my husband I every night, between our pillows LOL
Ah Makita is just adorable 🙂
thank you!
I am absolutely fixating on the fact that this lady has a book store, and her cat pees on all the books. I mean, does the new guy even count as competition if he’s got new books and she has piss books??
Makita is a delightful chonky baby!
haha I know, her bookstore actually sounds quite awful! LOL
And yes, Makita is chonky and very cuddly. At night, I can’t tell if it’s her or my husband snoring in bed, but it’s all very comforting.
I’m sorry, what?! Your temp cat snores?!? LOL, Anne!
I know, I know. She’s got major sinus problems, but I love her. Our house is covered in her boogers unfortunately, she has a permanent kitty cold basically
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat.
I was definitely going to come down to the comments to ask when you got a cat!
We have officially adopted her now, she is all ours!
How lovely!
I’m super leery of books about bookstores and bookish people. Somehow they always feel to me like they’ve been written by people who think they love books but actually don’t. LOL
Awwwww. Just, awwwwww.
I actually know what you mean! It’s almost as if our hopes are too high when it comes to books like this hahah
