Do you think your response to New Year story would have been different if you were part of a culture that maybe approaches ageing differently (with multiple generations more often sharing spaces, grandchildren and grandparents more often under the same roof or involved more in care-giving, and, so, more of an awareness that different generations do experience things differently, from a younger age and throughout life)? On a separate note, when it comes to adult readers, I bet this is a more sombre read than usual now that celebrations for the Lunar New Year are going to be disrupted for the second year. *sigh*

    1. That’s definitely a good point re: the NY story, but the words itself weren’t accessible to kids at all either. Like, it was a beautiful poem really, but my kids just stared at the pages blankly and then told me to stop reading. They rarely have that reaction to a book.
