  1. Makes me think of the Jackson Five and the Osmonds. OK, they made the big time, but you have to wonder how many parents force their children to try to be the stars they never were themselves!

  2. I feel like this must be at least inspired by the Dionne quintuplets, right? The story sounds really similar. Everything I know about them is so sad that it seems odd to tell a similar story and have it be humorous but maybe that’s why he used a fictional family.

    1. I just went down a whole rabbit hole reading about these Dionne quintuplets. I’d never heard of them before, and reading what all was done to help them survive their first days was interesting. My own great-grandmother had a couple of stillborn babies, suggesting to me that it’s easy to lose a child, so I’m surprised and fascinated that five could be kept alive.

    2. It’s a fascinating and sad story. They were taken advantage of and I seem to remember they were a French Canadian family and so were taken advantage of by an English-speaking government. It is amazing that all 5 made it through childbirth.

    3. I don’t know much about the Dionne quintuplets, which is probably a good thing because their situation sounds sad!

  3. I love novels about film and usually do end up watching a bunch of the films too. It’s introduced me to a bunch of directors I’d not taken notice of previously!
