  1. Oh I relate to so many of these sentiments! The days of hand holding across the street are gone but thankfully hugs are still plentiful at almost 12 – so take heart! It is really hard and wonderful and all the things at once.

  2. I met a woman at a writing retreat who had had two children. She and her spouse wanted one more, and she got pregnant with twins. A few years after I met her, she was committed to a psycho ward because she felt like her kids were eat her (and literally, two little breastfeeders were) and climbing on her. Similarly, my sister-in-law was the MOST baby-wanting person I’ve ever met in my life, and she took to it SO naturally I felt like I was watching the Nature Channel. But just recently, now that the kids are 14, 13, 7, and 5, she’s got this glassy look in her eyes. Teasingly, I asked if it was everything she dreamed it would be, and she say, “No.” I mean, shit’s tough out there when moms don’t just look each other square in the eye and say, “Shit’s tough and I don’t judge you for experiencing that.” And year, the whole “mommy needs her wine” scares the crap out of me because society is not only normalizing it, they’re making it funny. Somehow dad drinking all the time is a problem, but mom drinking all the time is a coping mechanism.

    1. Yes very true! Not sure why we are normalizing drinking so much. Just recently, health canada came out with these new guidleines that said basically one drink is really bad for you, they used to say one a day was fine, but they’ve realized all alcohol is bad and people should stop it. Lots of upset people up here when that happened! LOL

    2. Yes, you can understand the uproar north of the border here – people rarely drink just one!

  3. Oh, this sounds like a book for me! That constant struggle of loving motherhood and your kids so so much and yet could you please just stop touching me for half an hour? While also knowing that in a few years they won’t be climbing all over me and I’ll miss it!
