    1. It really was such an impressive collection – i”ll be shocked if it’s not nominated for anything

  1. You definitely sold me on this one. I love that each story sounds odd but oddly plausible, too. I’m going to see if my library has this book. Lately, I’m sure you noticed, I’ve been reading more short story collections. I’ve found that a few novels I’ve read in the last couple of months weren’t totally immersive, which means I’m dragging through hundreds of pages. Short story collections can shake that up.

I think I’ve mentioned before that I’ve met this author. He did a reading at the University of Notre Dame, so I bought the current book (Light Lifting) and had him sign it.

    1. Oh I don’t recall you mentioning that – how lovely? I actually think he looks quite attractive in his author photos, so i’m jealous!

  2. I feel the same way – I wish there were more stories!! Especially since I had already read two of them elsewhere. (The first and the last, actually.) It’s pretty impressive when a writer can make you feel this way, since many story collections can feel somewhat monotone.
I got to go to the book launch, since it was in Halifax, so I got to get my copy signed. :)
