    1. Renee, I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. It did feel like something my husband would enjoy but not me. I was pleasantly surprised.

  1. I tried this one and just couldn’t get into it, although I liked The Sherlockian. Maybe I will give it another try in a few months.

  2. This sounds fascinating! I love it when the author includes notes on the real events – I’m one of those “Google-ers” who is constantly looking up things on my phone while reading, but it’s so much tidier when the author does it for me!

  3. I had the SAME thought about this book for my husband. He was really into some show on TV, I can’t remember the name (… on the history channel, maybe) about all the big shots during this time period, including those written about in this book.

  4. It’s interesting that the author included contemporary quotes in the beginning of the chapters for a book sent in the 1800s. I like that because then I would be thinking about the comparisons as I read the chapter. Did the author put the note at the beginning or ending of the book? I hate when I wish I had more info about a book and then lo-and-behold, there it is at the very end where it isn’t useful.
