  1. For years, I thought my favourite Scottish detective Rebus looked just like his author Ian Rankin. But then they televised it with Ken Stott in the role and I realised it was perfect casting, so had to readjust my mental image. I love Smokey looking moody in black & white – Hitchcock will be calling him in for an audition soon… and who’s that trying to muscle in beside him?

    And, yes, I often picture the author as one of the characters (usually the main one). I remember distinctly doing this when I read The Martian. Also Mitzi Bytes.

  3. It sounds like all the violent episodes her brother had were what prepared her for the “lightning,” meaning the hostage situation. If you think about it, you CAN’T prepare for lightning because it happens so fast, other than to try to avoid it and where it strikes (which isn’t the same as preparing for something).
